Her father John Martin Magenau Jr. was President and CEO at the Jackson Koehler Eagle Brewery in Erie Pennsylvania which had been established in 1847. The brewery closed in 1978. Jacobs started studying acting at the age of eight and was enrolled in the acting class on Saturdays at the Pittsburgh Playhouse while growing up.She participated in The Pittsburgh Public Theater where she had a regular place in the Public's Shakespeare Monologue Contest leading her to be cast in the role of Titania in its production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mt. Jacobs which she graduated from in 2000 from Lebanon High School, she moved to New York City New York in the year 2000, where she attended The Juilliard School. Her bachelor's degree was awarded in 2004.
